About The Soprafino Tarot (Carlo Della Rocca - 1835)

Created by Carlo Della Rocca and printed by Ferdinando Gumppenberg in 1835, the Soprafino tarot follows similar symbolism to the Marseilles decks, but was printed from engraved plates rather than woodblock. This allowed a finely detailed print, hence the name, as Soprafino means "very refined" in Italian.

The Soprafino tarot was an extremely popular deck that was copied and reprinted by several other printers, including the Fratelli Armanino 1887 Genoves variant, in which the deck was cut in half and mirrored, producing an "always-upright" deck.
